Spring Fundraiser at Trax

A Big Success: Horsefeathers' Fourth Annual Spring Fundraiser at Trax

Hearty thanks to all the people who helped out with this fun event! Thanks to all who gathered silent auction items, those who made beautiful gift baskets, the set-up and decorating crew, and a huge thanks to everyone for coming out for a night of good spirits and camaraderie. A crowd of 85 - old friends and new - enjoyed great food and beverage and a sweet video of some magic moments of hippotherapy. Over 100 silent auction items, large and small, afforded opportunity to support the program and enjoy new-found treasures (and inspired some good-natured bidding wars!)

All spring, friends of Horsefeathes have been "cheering on" and chipping in to show their support for their favorite horse in the "Race for the Carrots". The Trax event is the last burst of effort in the stretch before the finish line. This year's winners are: Scooby Doo (1st), Ice (2nd), Apollo (3rd). Then Captain, Rover, Tonka, Chance, Peter Pan, Tye, and Bud. After the winners were announced, one of the ponies was reportedly overheard saying, "Just wait until next year!"

Race for the Apples

The Race for the Apples has crossed the finish line! First place goes to Scooby Doo, followed by Apollo, Ice, Peter Pan, Captain, Bud, Chance, and Red Rover. Thanks to everyone who participated to help make this the best horse race yet!

Run For the Carrots results: Apollo was first, followed by Scooby then Red Rover, Captain, Chance, Bud, Peter Pan, and Ice

ABC 7 News Story 2012

Horsefeathers made the news with a story by ABC 7's reporter Karen Meyers, featuring riders from Keshet enjoying rides with our wonderful horses. Even more compelling than the interview explaining what therapeutic riding is, was the video of these very special riders. The image of the team required for each lesson - horse, leader, instructor, sidewalker, and rider - all working together toward a common goal, is powerful, and all of us at Horsefeathers are grateful to ABC 7 for telling our story.

The Chicago TribLocal printed our story on our trip to the Special Olympics of Illinois Equestrian Event on Thursday, September 22, 2011. The full story can be seen online.
